Boy Scouts of America gears up for annual Scouting for Food drive

Mar 05, 2018

The Mississippi Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America will be kicking off the annual Scouting for Food drive Saturday, March 10. The Boy Scouts are asking for the community’s assistance in collecting food items to be donated by Scouts to local food banks in the Tri-State Area.

Nearly 2,600 Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be going door-to-door to deliver Scouting for Food door hangers throughout their neighborhoods. Scouts will then return on March 17 to collect the donated non-perishable food items left outside. All food remains in the area in which it is collected.

Non-perishable items only are requested, preferably canned goods such as canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned meats, rice, beans and nothing frozen or in glass containers.

Food may also be delivered to the Scout Service Center in Burlington.

The Mississippi Valley Council operates in 13 counties in the Iowa, Illinois, and the Missouri Tristate Area, serving more than 2,700 youth and is a United Way Partnering agency. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
