Chamber receives grant for website

Aug 05, 2013

Iowa Network Services (INS), West Des Moines, and Farmers & Merchants Mutual Telephone, Wayland, have each awarded $2,500 grants to the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance.

Farmers & Merchants applied to the INS Ripple Effect program for a $2,500 community planning grant for the Chamber and matched it with another $2,500, according to Chamber officials.

The Chamber will use the grants to help finance the development of an economic development website that will be targeted to professional site selectors working with businesses expanding and relocating to southeast Iowa.

The website will include commercial and industrial property listings throughout Henry County, workforce statistics, quality of life indicators and information on available financial assistance, all of which will strengthen Henry County communities’ strategic and competitive advantages for economic development, Chamber officials said.

“It’s exciting that Farmers & Merchants and Iowa Network Services recognize the value of web-based outreach to decision-makers looking to locate in Henry County, stated Kiley Miller, executive vice president of the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance.

The Ripple Effect partnership between INS and Iowa Area Development Group (IADG) is designed to advance the business and community vitality of rural Iowa by partnering with the independent telecommunication companies (ITCs) in their economic and community development initiatives.

The program provides financial and technical assistance to business and industry and communities through ITCs, to stimulate growth and development in rural Iowa. The program makes available low-interest loans to business applicants and planning grants to communities and their economic development partners for various types of community development projects.

INS has committed $1 million dollars to this rural Iowa initiative. ITCs are required to match the financial assistance provided by Ripple Effect.

Other Ripple Effect services include research and education, awareness and training, business marketing and outreach, and development project facilitation including financial assistance through loans and grants.
