Chapter NZ of the P.E.O.’s ‘tip night’ a success

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 26, at the Ashford Park Clubhouse, with Jan Lange as hostess. President Lana Moeller presided at the 1 p.m. business meeting with 27 members present.

Chaplain Lea McCormick shared a passage of scripture. Recording Secretary Lange read the minutes from the previous meeting. Treasurer Deb Mascarenas gave the financial report. Corresponding secretary Jean Thomson read an acknowledgment from Iowa State Chapter treasurer Sue Aanes for Chapter NZ’s gift to the Iowa P.E.O. Project Fund.

Thomson also read thank you notes from Cottey Collete and The Fellowship Cup, and an invitation from the Burlington reciprocity group about a Founder’s Brunch at the Burlington Golf Club on Saturday, April 7. Another invitation received by Chapter NZ was a brochure from the Harlan-Lincoln House explaining their “Friends” membership opportunities and benefits.

Mascarenas presented the first reading of the budget for the upcoming year. Membership co-chairman Betty Lowe reported that the Valentine coffee at Sunnybrook Assisted Living was a success. They are planning a “Spring Fling” coffee soon.

B&B chairman Joyce Dennison reported having one guest. Memory rooms’ chairman Liz Garrels shared that several Cottey College students and professors toured the campus and memory rooms in early February.

Garrels announced that tour training for the memory rooms for the upcoming sesquicentennial is going well. The dates for the next two months are Monday, March 12, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 17, at 1 p.m. April dates are Monday, April 9, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 21, at 1 p.m. Tour training is a one hour session.

Reporting for the Henry County Sesquicentennial Committee, Karen Brimhall thanked members who helped bus tables and who “ate dinner out” the evening of Feb. 22, for P.E.O.’s tip night fundraiser.

Another tip night fundraiser is scheduled for Wednesday, April 11, at Jerry’s Restaurant from 5 to 8 p.m. Members are urged to eat dinner out that evening as well.

Moeller appointed Marcia Kentner and Sheila Allender to audit the treasurer’s books. She read her president’s letter, which was warmly received by chapter members.

Nominating committee chairman, Betty Lowe announced the list of officers for 2018-2019. They are Lana Moeller as president; Connie Geiser as vice president; Jan Lange as recording secretary, Deb Mascarenas as treasurer; Jean Thomson as corresponding secretary; Lea McCormick as chaplain; and Chris McCormick as guard. Thomson and Mascarenas will act as delegate and alternate delegate to the Iowa State Convention. The slate of officers and delegates were elected unanimously.

The next Chapter NZ meeting will be at Ashford Park Clubhouse with Karen Wenstrand, Pat Heusmann, Becky Kauffman and Mary Beth Young as co-hostesses. There will be an installation of officers at that time.

At the close of the meeting, refreshments were served by hostess and co-hostesses Betty Lowe, Amy Lowe and Jean Thomson.
