Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood August meeting minutes

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 27, in the home of Kathy Schimmelpfennig with Marcia Kentner, Kelley Tansey, Sally Anderson, Carolyn Reid and Bety Becker serving as co-hostesses. President Lana Moeller presided at the 1 p.m. business meeting with 26 members and one guest, Linda Hicks from Chapter M in Knoxville, present.

Chaplain Lea McCormick shared the scripture, recording secretary Jan Lange read the minutes from the previous meeting, treasure pro-tem Sara Titus gave the financial report and the correspondence was shared by Jean Thomson.

Elizabeth Garrels shared that the sisterhood is continuing to give tours of the memory rooms in Old Main on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan University. She asked that volunteers willing to help with future tours should contact her. Plans are ongoing for the 150th birthday celebration on Jan. 21, 2019, as well as the sesquicentennial convention in September of 2019. Karen Brimhall announced that the next Henry County chapters’ fundraiser is on Oct, 31, at the Pizza Ranch.

Vice President Connie Geiser thanked the hostess and co-hostesses and announced that a BIL/guest hayride and bonfire would be held at Elizabeth and Rich Garrels residence on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. The co-hostesses are Laura and Curt Bjork, Jennifer and Jeremy Clark, Emilie and David Glass, Stephanie and Rob Gardner and Missy and Jeff Sitar. Geiser also shared that the next regular meeting will be Monday, Sept. 24, 2019 at the Old Threshers Bussey Doll Museum to hear a program about the museum and dolls, “Celebrating! Childhood Memories” by Glenna Voyles. The co-hostesses for the meeting are Sharon Davis, Nancy Vens, Patty Carson and Judy Kinney.

At the close of the business meeting, Kadie Johannson shared an interesting and informative talk about “healthy lifestyles.” She stated that creating a balance in your life is most important. She shared several “tips” to that goal such as drinking plenty of water, getting enough sleep, eating vegetables and lowering the amount of sugar in the diet, to name a few.

At the close of the meeting, the hostess and co-hostesses shared refreshments.
