Chapter NZ P.E.O. announce October events

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 18, in the home of Joyce Dennison with Kadie Johannson, Deb Mascarenas, Janet Roederer, Marcia Kentner and Jo Sankey serving as co-hostesses.

President Lana Moeller presided at the 1 p.m. business meeting with 27 members present. Iowa State Chapter organizer Bev Templeton was a special guest.

Chaplain Lea McCormick shared a scripture reading. Recording secretary Lange read the minutes from the previous meeting. Treasurer Mascarenas gave the financial report. Corresponding secretary Jean Thomson read several notes of thanks for gifts and support and a letter from the Iowa State Chapter president with updates on project information and the 150 Fund.

Membership chairman Bette Lowe introduced Sheila Allender and Sharon Davis, who gave announcements regarding chapter activities. An interest group fall workshop will be held Oct. 2 at the Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. A fall outing is scheduled for Oct. 11 to Swisher for lunch and then to Cedar Rapids to a tour of Brucemore.

Several committee reports were given, including Carolyn Reid representing the Iowa P.E.O. Project Fund, and Connie Geiser with the fall Cottey College report. Allender reported on the International Peace Scholarship committee, sharing the name and profile of the Partner in Peace recipient, who is Maria Candia Romano from Argentina, an International Affairs major studying at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

There will be two meetings in October. There will be a BIL bonfire picnic and hayride on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 5 p.m. at Liz and Rich Garrels’ farm. Co-hosts for the event are Laura and Curt Bjork, Jennifer and Jeremy Clark, Emilie and Buddy Glass and Steph and Rob Gardner.

The next regular meeting will be Monday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m. at the home of Connie Pedersen with Renee Davis, McCormick, Kelley Tansey and Missy Sitar serving as co-hostesses.
