Chapter NZ P.E.O. hosting annual Henry County chapters’ fall dinner Nov. 16

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Oct. 23, in the home of Connie Pedersen, with Renee Davis, Missy Sitar, Kelley Tansey and Lea McCormick serving as co-hostesses. President Lana Moeller presided at the 1 p.m. business meeting with 27 members and one guest, Katherine Evans, of Pawhuska, Okla., present.

Chaplain Lea McCormick shared scripture at the start of the meeting. Recording secretary pro-tem read the minutes from the previous meeting and treasurer Deb Mascarenas gave the financial report. Correspondence was read by secretary Jean Thomson, which included two thank you notes for gifts.

Committee reports were given, which included a report from Sharon Davis of the membership committee about the tour to the Brucemore mansion in Cedar Rapids. Sheila Allender shared about an upcoming workshop, and Chris McCormick announced plans to attend the Christmas Home Tour in Pella on Nov. 30. Members interested should contact McCormick for details.

Reporting for the International Peace Scholarship committee, Karen Wenstrand shared that the chapter will be sending a fall care package to their “Partner In Peace” recipient Maria Candia Romano from Argentina, who is studying at Georgetown University.

Karen Brimhall, reporting for the Henry County sesquicentennial committee, shared that proceeds from the Pizza Hut fundraiser were above the projected goal. The chapter will be holding another Pizza Hut fundraiser in February. Brimhall is also still taking orders for sesquicentennial T-shirts and polos.

Sara Titus, representing the committee to update the bylaws and standing rules, presented the first reading of the revisions. The second reading and a vote for adoption of the revisions will be taken at the next regular meeting. The chapter voted to give the first of three contributions to the “150 Fund,” which will be collected until the 2019 Convention of International Chapter in Des Moines.

Vice President Connie Geiser announced details of the two chapter meetings that will be held in November. The first will be Thursday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Iowa Wesleyan University Social Hall. This event will be hosted by Chapter NZ and is the annual Henry County chapters fall dinner.

Reservations need to be made now by calling or emailing Geiser. The program will be the production “Bringing Our Founders to Life.” The four vignettes will feature narrator and director Kadie Johannson and founder’s actresses Kimn Hassenfritz, Bev Alderson, Pat Heusmann, Patty Madden, Deb Mascarenas, Missy Sitar and Jean Thomson.

The second event will be at the chapter’s regular meeting on Monday, Nov. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Union Block. Co-hostesses will be Sheila Allender, Judith Miller, Kimn Hassenfritz and Bev Alderson. The program will be presented by Sheila Allender and will be “Celebrating: The Season with Holiday Appetizers.”

At the close of the business meeting, Lana Moeller, delegate to the Convention of International Chapter, gave a presentation about her attendance at the 73rd P.E.O. Sisterhood Convention in Charlotte, N.C. from Sept. 28 to 30. The theme was “Nothing could Be Finer ...” with Beth Ledbetter, of W. Fall Branch, Tenn., president of the International Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, presiding. There were 3,549 people present.

Installed as president for the next biennium was Sue Baker, of Warren, Ohio. An invitation using the theme “Welcome Home 1869 to 2019” was extended to the membership for the 2019 International Convention to be held Sept. 12 to 14, 2019 in Des Moines.
