Chapter NZ P.E.O. prepares for Pie In The Park in July

Jun 28, 2018

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regular meeting on Monday, June 25, at Jennifer Stater’s house with Janet Roederer, Ginny Lee, Jen Kohorst, Hannah Stater and Tabbi Schimmelpfennig serving as co-hostesses. President Lana Moeller presided at the 1 p.m. business meeting with 28 members present.

Chaplain Lea McCormick shared the Scripture, recording secretary Jan Lange read the minutes from the previous meeting and secretary Jean Thomas shared the correspondence.

Henry County sesquicentennial committee member Karen Brimhall announced that the Pie In The Park fundraiser is in full swing. The last date, in conjuncture with the Mt. Pleasant community band concert, will be starting at 6:45 p.m. on July 12 in Central Park. For a freewill donation, a slice of pie and scoop of ice cream are being served.

Liz Garrels asked that chapter members save the date Jan. 21, 2019, when a special afternoon and evening program is being planned to celebrate the founding of the P.E.O. Sisterhood 150 years ago on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan University.

Membership committee co-chairman Betty Lowe announced that P.E.O. members are invited to a showing of “The Greatest Showman” at Main Street Cinemas on Friday, July 20 at 1:30 p.m.

At the close of the meeting, Jean Thomson, delegate to the Iowa State Convention on June 1 and 2 in Des Moines, shared her thoughts. The theme for the presiding state president Pat Shipley was “Making a Difference.” Thomas said that the privilege of attending the convention made a difference in her understanding of P.E.O., projects and its members.

The next regular meeting will be Monday, July 23 at Joyce Dennison’s house with Deb Mascarenas, Pat Heusmann, Patty Madden and Sara Titus serving as co-hostesses. The program will be “Celebrating! Understanding Our Biblical Heritage” by Connie and Philip Geiser.
