Community 1st Credit Union moves up list of ‘Top Workplace’ award

Sep 19, 2017

OTTUMWA — Community 1st Credit Union garnered its second Des Moines Register “Top Workplace” award and moved up more than 10 places in the process. The newspaper recognized 150 Iowa companies and organizations for the 2017 honor.

The Ottumwa-based credit union with 230 employees and 17 branches was 38th on the list of midsized company employers. C1st was a newcomer for the designation last year.

The employer honor is based on results of an employee feedback survey administered by WorkplaceDynamics, LLC, a research firm specializing in organizational health and workplace environment.

“For the second year in a row, we are delighted to be named a Top Workplace in Iowa,” C1st President and CEO Greg Hanshaw said. “Moving up a few spots in the ranking is an additional honor. The results of employee survey show we have something special happening here. I’m proud to be part of our enthusiastic team.”

Several aspects of workplace culture were measured, including alignment, execution and connection. WorkplaceDynamics first published the list in 2006.

“The most successful companies are the ones that employees believe in,” reads a quote from the WorkplaceDynamics website.

Community 1st Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative with more than $600 million in assets. The credit union, established in 1936, serves more than 59,000 members.

The credit union has branches in Albia, Amana, Bloomfield, Cedar Rapids, Centerville, Chariton, Fairfield, Grinnell, Indianola, Knoxville, Mt. Pleasant, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Pella and Washington.
