Cooper is ready for warmer weather

Mt. Pleasant News

Well, that didn’t turn out how I had planned.

The big game was a letdown, to say the least. My football team, the Packers, didn’t make it, so I figured it would be good karma to root for the Broncos, since my husband is an avid Broncos fan and is from Denver. Well, that didn’t turn out so hot.

We watched the game with family, where there was an abundance of food and camaraderie as most were Broncos fans. Everyone was decked out in orange and navy blue, ready to cheer them on.

All that changed in the first 12 seconds of the game. I didn’t lose hope, but that safety really set the tone for the rest of the game I believe. It only went downhill from there, as we Broncos fans weren’t as cheerful as before.

The worst part? Football is over for the season now and we have to wait a few months for it to start again. Ugh. Now what do we watch on these cold winter nights? I’m not much for reality TV, don’t really care for any of those shows that others obsess over, so I guess it’s back to the movie store so we can catch up on all those movies we have missed.

Baseball starts soon, which could be a highlight of the upcoming spring months. Not that my baseball team ever does much…(Cubs fan right here!) But, I can have hope that I will see a World Series at some point in my life. Right?

Plus, baseball seems to last forever, which is good and there are so many games to watch. I like watching sports, which is something new for me. Before, I honestly didn’t pay much attention, but it is fun to get together with friends and family and cheer on our favorite teams.

Speaking of the aforementioned cold winter nights, I have said before that I hate winter, right? Well, I think that hate is growing even more if that’s possible. I’m getting real tired of snow. I won’t lie and the forecast is calling for more on Saturday. I hope they are wrong, but I guess they weren’t wrong this time.

I’m ready for spring. I want to hear the birds chirping and smell the fresh air blowing through my house. I want to be able to take my kids outside to play, as of right now, they are suffering from a serious case of cabin fever.

What do you do with a four-year-old and two-year-old around here in the winter? I hate going outside, which is one option, but it won’t last long (at least for me). I guess we could always rent a motel room and go swimming or something. I just know, that if we don’t get our kids out and about soon, we are going to have chaos in our house.

I also know we could go bowling, or to local museums, but honestly, I don’t think my kids would be too interested in that at their age. I just need something that will burn some of their pent-up energy.

I will just keep telling myself that spring is almost here, even though it doesn’t look like it. I know that March is around the corner and I can have hope that it will come in fast and bring about warm weather. I need that weather, now.

March also brings about my second favorite holiday of the year, St. Patrick’s Day. I love this day as my favorite color is green. Halloween is my favorite, but St. Patricks’ Day is right up there. I love getting all decked out in green and going out with my friends to celebrate the holiday. Plus, this year I think I may do the St. Patrick’s Day Fun Run 5K in Des Moines. It will be my first, so it will be a big deal for me.

We will make it through these winter months. I’m thinking that I need to start saving now so I can get away next winter, to break up the coldness. But knowing my luck, it will be a warm winter and wherever I go will be cold. Trust me, it always seems to work that way with me. My husband and I took a trip a few years ago to California, my brother said it rarely ever rains where he is. Wouldn’t you know it; we picked the four days that it did rain. So yeah, I have awesome luck with planning vacations.

I will just keep going to the gym and working on my goals for this year to pass the rest of winter away. It’s warm at the gym and, well, I will be ready for summer that way.

Overall, I just look forward to all that spring and summer have to offer. There are many more things to do, and I know I’m ready to get outside and feel warmth on my skin, instead of this bitter cold.

Just remember, keep your head up, spring will be here before we know it. Then we will all be complaining how hot it is, right? I won’t, because I love those super hot days. I know the end is in sight, let’s forge ahead and pull through this last part of winter!
