Two employees of the Henry County Road Department were injured on the job when another driver rear-ended their vehicle in the 3300 grid of Franklin Ave Friday, July 27, around 8:30 a.m.

Brent Roth, 33, of New London, was driving a Henry County Road Department truck at a slow speed spraying weeds alongside the shoulder when he was rear ended by Ryan Levy, 32, of Washington, who was driving a 2018 International tandem axle truck owned by Mose Levy Inc.

Aaron Cummings, 41, was riding as a passenger in the Road Department vehicle.

Levy reported only minor injuries and was issued a citation for failure to maintain control. Cummings was trapped for a short time and was extricated by Salem Fire and Rescue, Houghton Fire and Rescue and the Henry County Health Center Ambulance.

Roth was transported to HCHC for his injuries. Cummings reported minor injuries.

Henry County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss said the employees returned to work on Tuesday, July 31. During a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, July 31, Hotchkiss said the department is fortunate the accident was not more serious than it was.

“On our end, we’re just very thankful our guys are OK. We’re lucky on that,” Hotchkiss said, asking the public to remember to be mindful of any construction workers and to pay attention on the roads.
