County hard at work improving, maintaining roads

May 11, 2018

With summerlike weather this spring, the Henry County Engineering Department is hard at work improving and maintaining county roads.

The first week of May, territory operators hauled materials to various sites around the county for repairs. One focus was Benton Ave. for a culvert repair. Resurfacing rock was hauled to Baltimore Township.

Additionally, territory operators have continued operation prepping and seeding, entrance maintenance, moved equipment for maintenance projects and cold patched various locations.

County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss also announced during the Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday, May 10, that the 140th and Dakota Ave. grading project is now open to traffic.

Supervisors then approved three permits as follows: an underground utility permit for Windstream new service; an overhead utility permit for Access Energy new service; and self-applied dust control permits.

With more work to be done this summer and a part-time employee not returning to the department, Hotchkiss also informed Supervisors they are trying to fill a position. The part-time employee would work 40 hours a week for five to six months, weather permitting, and would focus on mowing operations.
