Crawfordsville news: Alumni banquet planned for June 9

By Billie Jo Rose | May 17, 2018

The regular meeting of the united church women met in the fellowship hall at the United Church of Crawfordsville at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8. Nine ladies were present.

President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and the opening creed was read in unison. Billie Jo Rose gave the meditation with the emphasis on Mother’s Day, followed by prayer.

The minutes of the April 10 meeting were approved as read and the April 29 meeting was approved as amended. At that meeting, it was announced that Gene Miller and Wayne Lowe would head the alumni banquet.

Pat Miller gave the treasurer’s report and it will be filed for audit. There was no correspondence and no report on local activities or Dorcas.

Study & Devotions/Mission Outreach:

The regular offering and the least coin offering were taken and the prayer for the fellowship of the least coin were read together.

Old Business:

• The summer lunch program was discussed and Clarissa Malmberg was thanked for volunteering to coordinate. The ladies will prepare lunches and deliver them the first two weeks of June. There will be a sign-up sheet for workers and supplies.

• The Rummage Sale committee was also thanked, along with all who helped.

Upcoming Events/News Items:

• No June meeting

• The next regular meeting will be July 10. Pat Miller will have meditations and Donna Fletcher will be hostess. Dorcas will meet May 14, June 11 and 25.

Work Committees:

May: Cathy Williams and Billie Jo Rose

June: Pauline Richardson and Cathy Williams

Alumni Banquet (June 9): Gene Miller and Wayne Lowe

July: Janet Whiting and Aline Hesseltine

There being no further business the meeting adjourned and Debbie thanked Ruth for being hostess. She closed by continuing the fruits of the spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23 from “Grace for the Moment” by Max Lucado.

The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room with 13 members and one guest, Katrina Altenhofen, present.

Lion President Lance Miller opened the meeting leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Larry Fletcher gave the invocation. After a delicious meal prepared and served by Alice Hochstetler, Katrina Altenhofen, executive director of hospice of Washington County gave a presentation on hospice services available in the area.

Following the program, the meeting reconvened. The minutes of the April 23 meeting were approved as corrected. The treasurer reported there had been no activity in either account. Lion President Lance announced that the Columbus Junction Lions are having a breakfast Saturday, May 26 from 7-11 a.m. and encouraged members to attend.

Camp Courageous is soliciting donations for solar energy panels for the camp. This was tabled until the request letter could be read to the club. Members were reminded of Crawfordsville Fun Day on July 7 and that the June 11 meeting would be held at the ballpark at 6:30 p.m. with a light meal to be served by the June committee. It was also noted it might be time to purchase a different stove and refrigerator for the ballpark.

There being no further business to come before the club, the meeting adjourned.
