The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the United Church of Crawfordsville for the annual Installation Banquet.

Lion President Billie Jo Rose called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Lion secretary Nancy Love gave the invocation.

Following a delicious meal prepared and served by the United Church Women, District Governor Nancy Slack addressed the club and spoke about how Lions are changing the world in their second century of service. With 1.4 million Lions and Leos, they are the largest service club in the world. The group’s horizons are broadening from addressing vision and hearing problems to include diabetes, pediatric cancer and hunger.

She also presented Billie Jo Rose with the Past President’s pin.

Awards for perfect attendance were given to Billie Jo Rose, eight years; Gene Miller, 15 years; Scott Davis, 27 years; Mike Massey, 38 years and Randy Finke, 38 years. Lion secretary Nancy Love was awarded the Si Finke Memorial Lion of the Year award. Lion Arvid Anderson was recognized for 64 years as a Lion. Lion Anderson also had a display which included a Lions 100 year Gold lapel pin, along with other Lions lapel pins and a 2017 Lions Club International Centennial Silver Dollar.

Installation of officers followed: President Lance Miller: 1st Vice President Adam Mitchell; 2nd Vice President Larry Swailes; Secretary Nancy Love; Treasurer Randy Finke; Tail Twister Larry Fletcher; Lion Tamer Mike Massey; One Year Directors Larry Swailes and Mindy Wilson and Two Year Directors Gene Miller and Joel Greene.

Past President Billie Jo Rose passed the President’s Pin on to Lance Miller as he took the gavel.

Minutes from the June 12, 2017 meeting were approved as read. There was no treasurer’s report.

The United Church Women met Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the Fellowship with 11 in attendance.

The meditation was given by Joyce Huff citing “simplify life and enjoy it more,” followed by all saying the Lord’s Prayer. The meeting was called to order by President Debbie Lowe and the Opening Creed was read in unison. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Billie Jo Rose and approved as read. Pat Miller, treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report and it will be filed for audit.

The date for the Harvest Sale has been set for Saturday, Oct. 28.

Wilma reported 32 bags were finished on Monday, Sept. 11, making a total of 132 for the year so far.

Clarissa Malmberg shared a message on Uruguay. The regular offering, the World Thank offering and the Least Coin offering were taken and members recited the Fellowship of the Least Coin together. The 2018 list to sign up for hostesses and devotions was passed.

The Fall Rummage Sale Report was given.

Helen asked that UCW once again pay for the toothpaste for each kit. All items for kits must be in by the last week in October.

It was decided to meet in January, March, May, July, September, November and December starting in 2018 and evaluate at the end of that year.

The next regular meeting is Oct. 10.
