Twelve members of the Crawfordsville Wednesday Study Club met in the Fellowship Hall of the United Church of Crawfordsville at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 20, for their annual salad luncheon.

Reading team losers provided the salads, hostesses Cathy Williams, Clarissa Malmberg and Joan Anderson provided casseroles and rolls and drinks. The tables were decorated in an autumn theme.

Following the delicious meal and fellowship, the business meeting began by President Pauline Richardson thanking the hostesses.

The group recited the flag salute and Club Collect in unison. The 2017-18 program books titled “Our Days with Wednesday Study Club” were distributed and read through. Book briefs were given by several members. The secretary/treasurer read the minutes of the June 21 meeting and gave the treasurer’s report.

The program was “Literature Day” led by Wilma McAllister, who gave the reading results for 2016-17. The winning team had read a total of 220 books; the losing team a total of 207 books.

McAllister passed out lists of favorite books to all members and gave some interesting statistics of this and past years. New reading teams were then determined for 2017-18.

The next meeting will be Oct. 18. The theme will be “History Day.”

The 2017 WACO C.R.O.P. Drive will be held during the month of October. It provides funds for those who need it both around the world and at home. This year’s goal is $35,000. One-fourth of the proceeds will be used within the WACO Community. In 2016 this money supported the WACO summer lunch program and backpack programs.

On Sunday, Oct. 8, the CIA Youth will canvas the town of Crawfordsville and outlying areas.

The Parish Council is planning a night of fun for all the church and community. A hayrack ride and bonfire will be held at Rick Fulton’s pond on Saturday, Oct. 14. Hot dogs, chips, s’mores and drinks will be provided.

Bring lawn chairs and roasting sticks. Those going may meet at the church at 5:45 p.m., the hayrack will leave at 6 p.m. You may also drive out. Hayracks will return at 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

There is a sign-up sheet at the church or you may call the church at 319-658-2366 and leave your name, phone number and number of attending.
