Crawfordsville pastor returns safely from trip to Holy Land for Christian ministers
By Billie Jo Rose | Mar 12, 2018

Pastor Jason Collier of the United Church of Crawfordsville and the Ainsworth Community Church recently returned from a trip to the Holy Lands. The trip was paid for by the Knights Templar. Collier was sponsored by the Zerubabbel Commandery number 68 in Albia.

Zerubabbel Commandery raised funds to send the first Iowa pastor since the 1990s. He was the only pastor from Iowa.

This trip, the Knight Templar Holy Land Pilgrimage: a Pilgrim’s Journey for Christian Ministers, was held Feb. 12 to 22. Collier flew from the Quad City Airport on Feb. 10 to O’Hare in Chicago, and from there to JFK, where he spent the night in New York and attended church with a former exchange student of his, Caio Callari and his wife from Brazil. The next day, he went onto Tel Aviv, Israel. Callari works at the Empire State Building. He and his wife took Collier to their home called Via 57 West in New York City, which is a pyramid shaped tower that is 35 stories tall.

The trip was a great learning experience with 50 other pastors from the U.S. They had three shepherds from the U.S. that kept them safe and organized and were also provided with an incredible guide and a bus driver that took care of the rest.

Collier and his roommate Tom, of California, were able to do something out of the ordinary by spending the night in the church of the Holy Sepulchre. This is the church that is now closed because of protests. Collier visited the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Sea of Galilee, Ruins of Capernaum and Nazareth, to name a few sites.

Some highlights of the trip included shopping in Jerusalem, a gondola ride at Mygda, floating in the Dead Sea and Baptismal Remembrance in the Jordan.

The Wyman Community Club met Monday, March 5, at Ainsworth Four Corners for lunch at 11:30 a.m. There were 10 people in attendance.
