Wednesday Study Club holds ‘Safety Day’ program

On theme for April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Crawfordsville Wednesday Study Club held a program on safety and discussed human trafficking in Washington County and surrounding counties on Wednesday, March 21.

Speakers Chad Ellis and Deanna Hansen conversed with the 11 members and two guests present at the Wednesday Study Club and answered questions attendees had for them regarding how these counties compare to other areas of the state of Iowa. Ellis is an investigator from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Hansen is a service coordinator at the University of Iowa for the Rape Victim Advocacy Program (RVAP).

Following the program, club president and program leader Pauline Richardson opened the business meeting with the reciting of the flag salute and club collect. A few book briefs were given and discussed. One member mentioned attending book readings and signings and encouraged other members to do the same.

The secretary/treasurer read the minutes of the February meeting and reported the balance in the treasury. These were approved as read.

Correspondence from Lending Hands for their appreciation of the club’s paper products contribution was shared. Items (non-perishable and paper products) were collected for HACAP.

Hostesses Cathy Williams and Pam Humphreys served delicious refreshments following the adjournment of the meeting.

The next meeting will be April 18, the theme “Exploring Day in Fairfield,” including a Dutch treat lunch. More details will be announced later.

The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, March 26, at the Crawfordsville Community Room with 13 members present.

Lion president Lance Miller opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Gene Miller gave the invocation. The minutes of the March 12, meeting were approved as read.

Lion treasurer Randy Finke gave his report. A check will be written to the World Indigenous Ministries in the name of Lara Hochstetler.

All leftover supplies, except sausage, were donated to the Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast.

In other news highway clean up is scheduled for April 14 at 9 a.m. Larry Swailes will be in charge of procuring vests and bags. There is no rain date.

The slate of officers proposed at the March 12 meeting was voted on unanimously. A thank-you note from Camp Courageous was read, thanking the club for their donation.

The Crawfordsville Lions Club WACO Scholarship is in progress.
