The United Church Women of the United Church of Crawfordsville met Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. with 11 members and one guest present.

President Debbie Lowe opened the meeting. Members read together the opening creed. President Lowe welcomed guest, Shirley Pfeifer, the Methodist Women’s Mission Education and Interpretation Coordinator.

Frieda Finke gave the devotion, “Gray Hair and Thoughts on Growing Old.”

Minutes of the January meeting were read and approved as corrected. Treasurer Pat Miller gave the treasury balance and the report will be filed for audit.

Correspondence was read by President Lowe. Presbyterian Women are sponsoring a PET project. PET (Personal Energy Transportation) is a hand-driven wheeled device for people missing legs or feet to provide mobility.

An invitation was read from the New London Christian Church to the Women’s Spring Conference on March 2.

A thank you note for the UCW’s donation to the Pure Water Foundation has been received.

Dorcas has resumed meetings on the second and fourth Mondays at Wilma McAllister’s home. The group has completed lap quilts and continues to work on completing baby quilts and other quilt projects.

Study and devotions: Call to Prayer and Self Denial and Prayer of the Fellowship of the Least Coin were led by Clarissa Malmberg.

President Lowe requested rummage sale items not be brought to the church until two weeks prior to the April 25-27 sale. Storage space is very limited now that the classrooms are in use.

Pfeifer spoke regarding several United Methodist Women mission projects. Bidwell Riverside in Des Moines continues to use the small frame house that has been the center for at least 60-plus years. She told about the prayer calendar, a list of missionaries/deaconess’ birthdays that gives information about them.

Upcoming studies include Hispanic ministries with a focus on domestic abuse. Several other mission studies were reviewed.

UMW no longer is under the Board of Global Ministries. This means the UMW can now designate their spending to projects of their choosing.

The SE Iowa Methodist District Superintendent Lillian Seagren will be the speaker at the annual UMW SE District Meeting April 13, in Wilton. President Lowe thanked Pfeifer for attending the meeting and for her interesting report on UMW mission projects.

World Day of Prayer will be held at the Ainsworth Community Church on March 1.

There will be no March meeting of the UMW.

The meeting was closed by President Lowe reading John 15:12 and the members reciting the closing creed.

Refreshments were served by the hostess, Frieda Finke.

Sunday, March 10, will be the Hymn Sing/Kid’s Concert with the Ainsworth Community Church at the United Church of Crawfordsville at 6:30 p.m. If you have a child or know of a youth that would be willing to play or sing, please contact the church office.
