Cyclist seriously injured in mishap

Aug 15, 2013
Photo by: Megan Cooper A three-vehicle accident resulted in serious injuries to a motorcyclist Wednesday afternoon on the east edge of Mt. Pleasant. Joshua Bradley, 23, New London was operating a Harley Davidson when he was struck by a car, driven by Betty Binning, 85, Mt. Pleasant. The Binning vehicle then struck a pickup.

A three-vehicle accident yesterday near at the intersection of East Washington Street and South Prairie Avenue (near the HyVee Gas/First Community Credit Union entrance) resulted in serious injuries and briefly redirected traffic on East Washington Street yesterday.

A west bound 1999 Lincoln Town Car, driven by 85-year old Betty Lou Binning of Mt. Pleasant, attempted a left turn onto South Prairie Avenue, but instead came into the path of an eastbound Harley Davidson, driven by 23-year-old Josh Bradley of New London, causing Bradley to be thrown from his motorcycle.

Bradley was taken by MedForce helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the crash.

The collision caused Binning’s vehicle to rotate and strike a third vehicle, a 2011 Cheverolet Silverado, driven by Jason Burgus, 33, Winfield. The Burgus vehicle was stopped at the South Prairie Avenue stop sign at the time of the collision.

Binning was taken to Henry County Health Center by ambulance for treatment of injuries and Burgus was uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation.
