Thirty descendants of Don and Rita Davis joined them at Camp Quaker Heights in Eldora for a family  reunion to celebrate their 50 years of marriage. The Davises were married July 30, 1967, at Wayland Mennonite Church.

The gathering began on Friday, July 28, at Tall Oaks Lodge where a dinner, indoor games, and visiting were enjoyed by all four generations. Saturday morning the group drove to Mesquakie Friends Church in Tama for a service day. A windmill was constructed with an “adult-sized erector set,” classrooms were painted, and chainsaws were used to cut two felled trees into manageable logs.

Outdoor games and the swimming pool were the reward for the work when they returned to camp. Afterwards, a formal dinner in the dining hall, spirited homemade ice-cream and the ”newlywed game”-style competitions were held.

Sunday morning family worship featured a June mission trip report with power point from Kip Davis and daughter Riley who served on a Kenya healthcare team to two slum areas in Nairobi.

A family video and special personalized gifts were presented to Don and Rita. A professional photo shoot of all the family against the beautiful backdrop of the trees followed.

A barbeque dinner was the final scheduled event of the weekend. Recognition and thanks went to Tricia Davis, who planned meals and special events. Tabitha Davis and Tonille Davis, both from Phoenix, Ariz., traveled the greatest distance to celebrate with their family.
