Deputies make arrest, investigate mishaps

Aug 23, 2017

Henry County Sheriff’s deputies made an arrest following a traffic stop and investigated a pair of accidents in the past several days.

A traffic stop was performed Aug. 20 on a 2007 Buick for speeding in the 2300 grid of Franklin Avenue.

After an investigation, it was determined that Brian Leonard Walter, of Brighton, was operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Walter was arrested and transported to the Henry County Jail where he was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol-first offense and speeding.

The sheriff’s office received a call Aug. 19 from James Edward DePriest, of Mt. Pleasant, stating that his son, Kyle David DePriest, drove his car off the roadway and into a ditch near the intersection of Jewel Avenue and Salem Road.

An investigation revealed that K. DePriest was driving a 2010 Hyundai Sonata westbound near the intersection of Jewell Avenue and Salem Road. He drove the vehicle off onto the shoulder and after driving onto the shoulder, drove the vehicle into the north-side ditch.

K. DePriest’s vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene. He was transported and treated for suspected minor injuries. K. DePriest was cited for failing to maintain control of his vehicle.

A vehicle-deer accident resulted in significant damage to a 2014 GMC Terrain. The sheriff’s office received a report Aug. 18 from Kaysie June Burden, of New London, that she had struck a deer with her vehicle.

According to the accident report, Burden was southbound near the intersection of New London Road and 305th Street. A deer ran out in front of the vehicle causing Burden’s vehicle to strike the deer with the front grill/bumper area of her Terrain.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
