Donald LaVerne Haines, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday April 3, 2013 at his home in Mt. Pleasant.

The funeral service will be Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Winfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Richwood Cemetery, rural Trenton.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

The son of Glen and Pearl (Moxley) Haines, he was born March 29, 1931, at Mt. Pleasant. He married Beverly Schultheis in January of 1959. She preceded him in death. In August of 2002 he married Beverly Allen. He was a graduate of the Winfield High School. He worked as a mechanic on an Air Force Base in Arizona in earlier years. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a farmer.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tom (Sally) Haines of Mt. Union and Jeff (Susan) Haines of Mt. Pleasant; two step-daughters; Rita Brown of Washington and Margie (Carl) Benson of Tipton; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren seven step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Erma McCormick of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a grandson, four brothers and one sister.
