Doris W. Garrels, 78, West Point, died on Tuesday July 30, 2013, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Ft. Madison.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point where there will be a parish rosary recited at 3 p.m. The family will meet with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home with a Christian Wake service at 7 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Fr. Dennis Hoffman as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in West Point.

Memorials may be made to the PAWS Animal Shelter.

Online condolences may be made to the family at The Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born Dec. 7, 1934, at West Point, she was the daughter of Leo and Dorothy Pannenberg Neuweg. On Nov. 16, 1957, she married Stanford A. Garrels. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Ft. Madison. She retired from Sheaffer Pen Company with over 40 years of service. She loved animals and above all her granddaughters.

Survivors include her son, Greg (Cathy) Garrels of Ft. Madison; three granddaughters; and her twin brother, Dennis Neuweg of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Marvin Neuweg; and one sister, Lucy Parks.
