As construction crews move on from laying new sidewalk along Jefferson St. to focusing on repaving the road, the east side sidewalk along Jefferson St. will be open for use. Snow fence will be placed on the west side of the new sidewalk to keep people out of the work zone.

Although there is no thru traffic on Jefferson St., people are still able to drive one-way around the square and can park on the opposite side of the street to reach downtown businesses. All businesses also have back entrances and can park at the public lot west of the alley.

Next week, Mt. Pleasant Municipal Utilities and Drish Construction will be installing the water services from the new main and setting new curb boxes between the new sidewalk and the curb between Washington St. to Monroe St. This phase of the project should be completed by Friday, April 27, weather permitting.

Mt. Pleasant Municipal Utilities will be installing a new access for water meters at Panda Kitchen on Monday, April 23, between Monroe St. and Madison St. Throughout the rest of the week, Stewart Kinney will be blocking up existing meter vault in the sidewalk outside of Panda Kitchen and filling it with crushed stone.

Jones Contracting will then pour the remaining gray concrete in front of Panda Kitchen before pouring the last red brick pattern section. By Friday, April 17, the six-foot wide ADA sidewalk will be opened for use on the west side of Jefferson St. from Monroe St. to Madison St.

Construction crews will begin closing off more streets Monday as Kinney and Sons begin removing concrete headed south toward the South St. and Main St. intersection. The intersection will remain open until crews are ready to place paving.

Main St. will be closed moving south just after Langdon St. Traffic will be able to access all homes and apartments on Langdon St., but will not be able to get onto S. Main St. There will be short time periods where property owners on Main St. will not be able to access their driveways as construction crews remove concrete, place subbase and repave the street.

On Monday, April 30, Mt. Pleasant Municipal Utilities will begin installing the new water main on Jefferson St. At this time, the west sidewalk on Jefferson St. will be open.
