Edwin K. Sampson, 79, of Washington and formerly of Wyoming, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Farmington with the family meeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Farmington with the Rev. Mark Caston officiating. Burial with full military rites by the Farmington American Legion Post will be held in the Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington.

A memorial has been established in his memory.

Born Sept. 6, 1933, in Stockport, he was the son of Gerald and Blanche (Van Patten) Sampson. He married Elizabeth Jean “Jeanie” Medaris on Sept. 14, 1951, at Montezuma.

He was a member of the Baptist Church and the American Legion in Wyoming. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked in the sheet metal field until he owned and operated Ed’s Plumbing and Heating in Wyoming. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, reminiscing, playing cards with special friends, spending time with family and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Laura (Dean) Hiner of Maquoketa, Deb Sampson of Wyoming, and Rhonda (Phil) Reed of Washington; two brothers, Gerald (Bud) Sampson of Cedar Rapids, and Michael Sampson of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Anna Marie Carter of Donna, Texas and Wanda Morfelt of Texas; and a half-sister Vicki Sampson; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Punk; and one sister, Alberta House.
