Eighth-grade football downs Ft. Madison, Ottumwa

The Mt. Pleasant eighth-grade football team swept Ft. Madison on Tuesday and did the same to Ottumwa last week.

The Panthers’ “A” team topped Ft. Madison by a score of 28-14, and the “B” team won, 18-6, to finish out the season.

Against Ottumwa last week, Mt. Pleasant won the A game, 54-12, and shut out the Bulldogs in the B game, 20-0.

In the A game against Ft. Madison, Brady Sartorius picked up 108 yards rushing on 10 tries and scored two touchdowns. Isaac Kuster gained 43 yards and Colin Mulford had 21 yards.

Sartorius also went 7-for-11 passing for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

Joseph Coberly had 3 catches for 107 yards, including a touchdown reception; Mulford also had a touchdown catch. Kieran Kohorst caught a two-point conversion pass.

Caleb Potts made seven tackles while Maison Ashton, Payton Kelly, Cooper Huckabone and Kuster had five each.

Kuster also had an interception.

In the B game, Damien Lorenzo gained 65 yards rushing in seven tries and Keegan Rich rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns in five attempts.

Rich also had 81 yards passing and a touchdown. Lorenzo had the touchdown reception.

Coberly and Dalton Smith had six tackles each while James Lobdell and Bergen Ensminger had five apiece.

Coberly and Smith each had a fumble recovery.

Against Ottumwa, Sartorius led Mt. Pleasant with 82 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Kuster had a rushing touchdown on his way to 70 yards on the night. Mulford gained 20 yards.

Sartorius was 1-for-16 passing for 121 yards and a touchdown. Kuster had three catches and Tanner Ruby had a touchdown reception.

Ruby also returned two interceptions and a fumble for a touchdown, leading the Panthers with four scores on the day.

Potts made eight tackles, followed by Jake Lowe and Kuster (seven apiece), Derek Brake and Ruby (six apiece).

Ashton had an interception. Lowe and Kohorst each recovered a fumble.

In the “B” game, Rich went just 3-for-11 passing, but two of those passes were for touchdowns. He picked up 148 yards in the air on the day.

He also gained a team-high 18 rushing yards and returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Both of Rich’s touchdown passes went to Coberly, who had 117 yards receiving.

Smith, Luke Van Nyhuis, Ensminger and Lobdell had seven tackles each in the game.

Lobdell also recovered a fumble.
