Ellen Delores “Schantz” Crossett

Ellen Delores “Schantz” Crossett, 80, of Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction, died on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017.

Funeral services have been set for Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at the Beatty Funeral Home, in Washington, with Amy Sara Richardson officiating. Burial will take place at the Wellman Public Cemetery at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at the Beatty Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m.

Memorial funds have been established for Colonial Manor Nursing Home, in Columbus Junction; Alzheimer’s Association; and Hospice of Washington County.

Crossett was born on Oct. 3, 1936, at her parents’ home in Washington, the daughter of Ada Fannie (Christner) and David R. Schantz. She attended Shiloh Country School outside of Washington. She was united in marriage to Gary E. Crossett, on Jan. 14, 1952, in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death.

The couple farmed for 49 years southeast of Washington. She also sold Tupperware for many years, worked at the Snack Shack as a waitress, and was employed at Orchard Hill Rescare and Nucara Pharmacy, in Washington.

She attended Pleasant Hill and First Christian Church.

She enjoyed sewing, making crafts, decorating cakes, owning her ceramic shop, working in her gardens, and spending time with friends and family.

Crossett is survived by her children, Collen Kay (David) Jefferson, of Grundy Center, Marshall David (Jennifer) Crossett, of Washington, Connie Lynn Crossett, of Washington, Ada Sue (Dale) Sands, of Cedar Rapids, Teresa Mae (Darwin) Peterson, of Red Oak, and Sheryl Denise Crossett, of Washington; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pauline Duck, of Leawood, Kan., and Betty Beenblossom, of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; her parents; three sisters; and one brother.
