Emma Jane Watts

Emma Jane Watts, 90, of Salem passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

Emma Jane was born on March 28, 1928 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Charles L. & Geneva Lee Morrow Foss. She graduated from Salem High School in 1945 and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant. Emma Jane was united in marriage to Wilbur Gordon Watts on June 5, 1949, in Salem; he preceded her in death on May 25, 2006.

She worked at the Iowa Ordinance Plant, Salem Bank, Salem Post Office, Salem Library and the Telephone Company. She was a member of the Salem Congregational Church and was the church organist for over 50 years. She had a beautiful voice and sang in many events. Her love for music led her to be involved in the Salem Kitchen Band, talent shows at Old Settlers and playing several musical instruments. She enjoyed reading, her flowers and her cats. Emma Jane spent many years being the sole caregiver for her parents.

Emma Jane is survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Watts Walters of Monmouth, Ill.; brothers-in-law, Norman (Clara) Watts of Nampa, Idaho; Neil (Wanda) Watts of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Salem Congregational Church with Pastor Aaron Helterbran officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Salem East Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Salem Congregational Church's Music Department or to the Salem Fire and Rescue Association Incorporated in her memory.
