Ethel Marie Barry

Ethel Marie Barry, 78, New London, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at her home in New London.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 28, at Elliott Chapel, New London. The Rev. Harold Schutte will officiate. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery, rural New London. Visitation will begin after noon on Sunday at the chapel with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial has been established to Iowa Hospice.

She was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Queen City, Mo., the daughter of Ralph and Leah Mae Ruth York Utt. On June 28, 1953, she married Melvin Francis Barry in Burlington.

She worked at City Carton in Mt. Pleasant as an administrative assistant, retiring in December of 2012. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and was of the Baptist faith.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking, cooking and reading Tom Clancy books.

She is survived by two daughters, Amy (Michael) Overton and Sara (David) Francy, both of Mt. Pleasant; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Ewell “Tony” and Norval Utt; and three sisters, Rozella “Lollie” Johnson, Ova Alexander and Hazel Faist.
