Fruitcakes sold to raise money for Camp Courageous

Oct 19, 2017

The Arc of Jefferson and nearby counties will again be accepting orders for fruitcakes made by volunteers at Camp Courageous in Monticello to raise funds for the camp, as well as 75 or more campers from Jefferson and nearby areas.

The cakes are mixed and baked in September at the camp’s kitchen, cooled overnight, wrapped, boxed and frozen.

Darlene Vorhies, of The Arc, will accept orders through Nov. 10. Cakes are expected to be available in time for Thanksgiving. Locations where the cakes are available are Brown Bear’s Basket Antiques in Mt. Pleasant, Fareway in Washington, and Hy-Vee in Ft. Madison.

The Arc of Jefferson & Nearby Counties donates over $8,000 a year to the Camp to help fund children and adults in and from Jefferson County, as well as some funding for students with special needs attending classes in Van Buren and Harmony school districts.

Those who wish to order, contact Darlene Vorhies at 641-472-4449, email, or 306 W. Harrison Ave., Fairfield, 52556.
