Give your all to God

By Parnell Davis, YFC Coordinator | Aug 24, 2018

Today as I was running my usual three miles, I kept thinking about how much it means and what it costs to give God our all. As I was running the last lap of the third mile, I wanted to go a little harder, but was “comfortable” or content with the pace I was at, because I was going to complete the three miles at the least.

I am beginning to wonder how many of us are content with just being a “Christian.” Are you content with just running the race, but not attempting to run harder or faster, or give your all? Toward the end of the last lap, God told me to give my all. So, I sprinted and felt like an Olympian doing so. I was gassed, because I had given God my all, and initially it didn’t feel great. I was panting worse than a dog, but as soon as I composed myself, I felt great.

Two things:

1 Corinthians 10:31

“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

It’s pretty clear we are to give our all to God, period, whatever we do. Whether it is being a parent, how we eat, completing chores around the house or competing in an organized sport in a cage, it is to all be done for the glory of God.

What prevents us from giving our all? I tend to believe it’s the thoughts the enemy places in our minds, and the thoughts we allow our mind to entertain. For example, I didn’t want to sprint. I wanted to just finish. But God told me to give my all. Have your own thoughts or even thoughts from the enemy ever competed against the Word of the Lord in your heart?

This is why I believe this next scripture is so vital to our spiritual growth in the Lord and giving Him our all.

Joshua 1:9

“This book of the Law must not depart from your mouth; but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.”

We have to get back to the point where we are meditating on God day and night, period. No more “back shelving” God. No more putting God on the back burner. Its hard to give God your all when He isn’t your priority. Focus on Him, put Him first and give Him your all.
