Gladys Esther Davis, 77, Winfield, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at her home in rural Winfield.

Visitation is to be Monday, Sept. 23, from 2 to 7 p.m. where the family will meet with friends from 5 to 7 p.m at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield. The funeral will be Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Spring Run Church, with the Rev. Randy Whitsel officiating. Burial will follow at the Cambrian Cemetery, rural Columbus Junction. Memorials have been established for Spring Run Church.

Born Dec. 19, 1935, at Columbus Junction, she was the daughter of John H. and Jennie Williams Rees. On June 15, 1958, she married Roger Davis.

She graduated from Columbus Junction High School in 1953 and attended American Institute of Commerce in Davenport. She was a secretary at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance until her marriage, and then she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Spring Run Church and was church organist over 55 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was District UMW President for four years as well as Secretary for seven years.

She was a volunteer for Sunrise Terrace Care Center, member of Amitie, she was a co-owner of Winfield Fitness Center.

She enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening, canning, quilting, baking, traveling and spending time with family.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Debra (Stuart) Johnson of Shawnee, Kan. and Donna (Dane) Schaudt of Pella; one son, Carl (Nancy) Davis of Winfield; two sisters, Marie Greene of Washington and Irene Schmidt of Wheatland; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson; and her brother, Farrel Rees.
