Gladys Irma Daniel

Jan 25, 2017

Gladys Irma Daniel, 91, of Atlantic, passed away Thursday, January 12th, 2017.

Gladys was born on December 5, 1925 in Sumner, IA, the daughter of Louis and Emma Preibe Dreier. Gladys was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Sumner. She married Raymond Daniel in Reno, Nevada on December 6, 1946. She worked at the Mental Health Institute in Independence and Mt. Pleasant, Iowa for thirty five years before retiring in 1990. She then traveled to Arizona to visit her daughter, Annette Davis and to Oklahoma to visit her son, Rocky Daniel for several years. In 1996, she moved to Atlantic because of health reasons and to be near her daughter “Dee” Fredericksen and her husband Roger. Gladys’ greatest joys in life were visiting with family or receiving phone calls from out of town loved ones. Gladys will be remembered for her witty sense of humor, her strength and gentle loving heart. Playing cards was a favorite pastime of hers but anyone who played with her knew to watch her carefully.

Preceding Gladys in death are her parents, Louis and Emma Preibe Dreier; her husband, Raymond; her siblings, Virgil Dreier, Harry Dreier and spouse, Ralph Dreier, Lowell Dreier and spouse, Wilma Haug and spouse, brother in law Maynard Rowe; children Kathy Jo Daniel aged fifteen months and Raymond Lewis Daniel Jr aged six weeks; great granddaughter Tara Wallingford.

Gladys is survived by her children; Dolores “Dee” Fredericksen (Roger) of Atlantic, IA, Dennis Daniel (Pat) of Urbandale, IA, Rocky Daniel (Tracie) of Bartlesville, OK, Annette Davis (Robert) of Selma, TX; grandchildren, Steven Wallingford (Marci) of Atlantic, Sandra Wallingford (Lane) of Lincoln, NE, Scott Wallingford (Stacie) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Robin Daniel (Jill) of Mt Pleasant, IA, Mandy Johnson (Ramee) of Perry, OK, Jory Daniel (Alma) of Oklahoma City, OK, Jason Cornell of Meza, Arizona and Roxanne Hughes of Selma, TX; eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Accordingly, to Gladys wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment of remains will take place at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt Pleasant, Iowa at a later date. Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic oversaw the arrangements.
