Grand Avenue, Baker Street intersection to be closed temporarily

May 07, 2013

The Grand Avenue and Baker Street intersection will be closed for two to three days due to the reconstruction of Grand Avenue, according to Warner Engineering Associates Inc., the engineering firm for the project.

DeLong Construction will be removing existing pavement at the intersection, grading, installing sub-drain and engineering fabric with a granular sub-base.

Crews then will place additional surfacing on the east and west sides of Grand Avenue at the Baker intersection for traffic flow until crews place pavement.

The Mapleleaf Drive and Grand Avenue intersection will remain open as will the Winfield Avenue and Grand Avenue intersection and the frontage road on the east side of Grand Avenue.

People wishing to go to Walmart should use the entrance from Winfield Avenue or Cherry Street until the Baker Street intersection is reopened.

In other construction updates, DeLong is continuing the storm sewer installation along the north side of Mapleleaf Drive and crossing the Orscheln Store driveways. Traffic will be able to access the Orscheln Store and Anytime Fitness from the frontage road east of Grand Avenue.

It is hoped that paving will begin on the west side of Grand Avenue from the south side of Baker Street to the south side of Ash Street on Wednesday.

The concrete trucks will be using a route exiting the plant on Henry Street east to Broadway. They will travel north on Broadway to Winfield Avenue and east on Winfield Avenue to the frontage road east of Grand Avenue. They will travel south on the frontage road to Baker Street where they will enter Grand Avenue.

Concrete trucks will exit the project through the Mapleleaf Drive and Grand Avenue intersection.
