Grand Avenue to be finished Oct. 7

Sep 20, 2013

Reconstruction of Grand Avenue is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 7, according to Warner Engineering Associates Inc., engineer for the project.

The final pavement pour on the street is planned for Monday, Sept. 24, weather permitting. The final pavement pouring will require closing Grand from Winfield Avenue to north of James Avenue.

Grand will be blocked off at Winfield to the north and flaggers positioned at Winfield and Grand to direct traffic west to Iowa Avenue.

A flagger also will be positioned at Winfield and James avenues to aid traffic needed to go to businesses on James. The flagger will be keeping trucks from entering James because there will be no outlet onto Grand.

Another flagger will be on North Grand to direct traffic entering from the north on Grand to continue onto Exit 42 and enter Mt. Pleasant on Washington Street.

The closure of Grand from Winfield to James begins at 6 a.m. Monday and it is hoped to reopen the stretch by dusk Monday.

In the event of rain Monday, the same procedure will be followed Tuesday.

DeLong Construction, the project’s general contractor, will be completing finish grading and placing granular surfacing on the shoulders following the final pour. A striping crew will finish all striping and symbol placement by the first week of October. The seeding crew will arrive prior to the striping crew.
