Oct 19, 2017

WEST BURLINGTON — Great River Health Systems housekeeper Jon Cowles was one of 11 Hospital Heroes recognized by the Iowa Hospital Association Wednesday, Oct. 11, during its annual meeting in Des Moines.

Hospital Heroes have performed heroic acts or have tirelessly given their time, talent or expertise to better their organizations, patients or communities. They stand out among more than 72,000 hospital employees in Iowa’s 118 hospitals and health systems.

Cowles received the award from Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Jim Kelly, who was the meeting’s keynote speaker, and Great River Health Systems President and CEO Mark Richardson.

“Jon recognizes his job’s value and everything he does represents Great River Health Systems and the people who work there.” Richardson said in Cowle’s introduction. “His singular motivation is making the health system’s public spaces the cleanest they can be. He recognizes positive first impressions are an important part of the patient experience.”

Cowles has worked at Great River Health Systems for nearly 23 years.
