Mt. Pleasant’s Chloe Haffarnan signed her letter of intent to attend Northwest Missouri State University and run for the Bearcats next year.

“I went and visited, and the campus is beautiful,” Haffarnan said. “And the education part felt like a good fit. The fact that I can run there made it even better.”

Haffarnan competed in both cross-country and track at Mt. Pleasant and intends to continue both sports at the NCAA DII level.

“I really love running,” Haffarnan said.

The Mt. Pleasant senior is a two-time state qualifier in the 800-meter run, and has also competed in the 4x800-meter relay and the 1,500-meter run in Des Moines. In track at Northwest Missouri State, she plans to focus on the 800, and her coach wants her to give longer distances a try, too.

“He said he might try me in the mile; we’ll see how that goes,” Haffarnan said.

She still has one more track season at Mt. Pleasant, and has big goals for her senior year.

“I’d like to see the 4x800 take first or second at state, and in the 800, I’d love to place,” she said.

Haffarnan plans to major in history at Northwest Missouri State and would like to be a curator at a museum.
