Harland W. Weisinger, 81, West Point, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Family will meet with friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 2 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Fr. Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant.

Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery with full military rites presented by the West Point American Legion Holtz-Geers Post #668.

Memorials may be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holy Trinity Catholic Schools or the West Burlington Great River Hospice House.

Online condolences may be made at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born July 15, 1932, in Hancock County, Ill., and was the son of Wilbert and R. Ethel (Conover) Weisinger. On Sept. 1, 1956, he married Imelda Strothman.

He graduated from Denmark High School in 1950. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, West Point Knights of Columbus, West Point American Legion, Lee County Farm Bureau and Three Rivers Tractor Club. He was on the Farmers Savings Bank Board of Directors. He was an Army Artillery Staff Sargent serving in Korea from 1952 to 1954. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s activities, bus trips and WMT/WHO tractor rides and visits to the coffee shop.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Mark Weisinger of Ft. Madison; three daughters, Jean (Jim) Demmon of Ottumwa, Brenda (Greg) Ort of Cedar Rapids and Barbara (Kevin) Conrad of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; one brother, David (Miriam) Weisinger of Ft. Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary; one brother and two sisters.
