Harley N. Short, 21, of Ottumwa, and formerly of Wayland, died on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at his home in Ottumwa.

Funeral services for Short will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at 11 a.m., at the Beatty Funeral Home, in Washington. Burial will follow at the North Hill Cemetery in Wayland. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, from noon to 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Beatty Funeral Home, in Washington.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Short was born on Sept. 27, 1995, at Mercy Hospital, in Iowa City, the son of Jerry Joseph and Lynda Lorraine (Hemsted) Short. He attended school at Highland School District, in Riverside, WACO High School, and graduated from Eldora High School.

He enjoyed playing video games and magic cards.

Short is survived by his parents, Jerry and Lynda, of Wayland; four siblings, Alexis Hemsted of Boulder, Colo.; Joseph Andrew Short; Justin Leroy Short; Jerry Dean (Dystany) Short; his maternal grandmother, Lavada Hemsted, of West Plains, Mo.; and his paternal grandmother, Nancy Short, of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Donald Hemsted; and his paternal grandfather, Gary Dean Short.
