Have a bite to eat, stop a bite that kills

Apr 25, 2013

Trenton United Methodist Church is serving a pancake breakfast Saturday, April 27, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. as part of an interdenominational commitment to save lives in Africa from malaria.

All proceeds from the breakfast will go toward a comprehensive on-the-ground battle to fight malaria through prevention, education, communication and treatment.

Trenton United Methodist Church’s breakfast is one of many being held between April 25 and 28 by Imagine No Malaria and the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church. The breakfasts kickoff on April 25, which is World Malaria Day.

Malaria was wiped out in the US in the 1940s a part of a national effort by the forerunner of the Centers for Disease Control and eradicated in most other countries shortly thereafter, but Africa was left behind.

Every 60 seconds, a child under the age of five dies from this disease.
