Heitmeier honored by IHSBCA

DES MOINES — Former Panther Blake Heitmeier was honored last month as 3A Central District Coach of the Year by the Iowa High School Baseball Coach’s Association.

Heitmeier was a four-year letter winner in football and baseball at Mt. Pleasant, where he graduated in 2009. He also played four years of basketball and track.

Heitmeier continued his education at Simpson College, where he graduated in 2013.

The former Panther is currently a middle school teacher at Carlisle High School. He is the head baseball coach and an assistant football coach.

The Wildcats lost just five games in the regular season in 2016. They won their first two games at state before falling to Harlan in the 3A state title game.

The IHSBCA awards Coach of the Year awards every season to the best coach in the area for a given class.

Class 3A was broken into four districts. Other award winners were Casey Klunder of Waverly-Shell Rock, Jese Jablonski of Pella and Steve Daeges of Harlan.
