Helen Louise (Long) Henthorn

Helen Louise (Long) Henthorn, 82, died at her home in Big Laurel, Ky. on July 22, 2013.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 10 a.m. at the Salem Friends Church in Salem.

Memorials have been established to Laurel Mission, 77 Cedar Chapel Road, Big Laurel, Ky., 40808; Salem Friends Church, Salem, Iowa 52649 and Wold Gospel Mission, box 948, Marion, Ind. 46952.

She was born Jan. 17, 1931 in Mt. Pleasant and was the daughter of Harold M. and Lona B. McDowell Long. She attended Pleasant Lawn School until her family moved to Salem in 1942 where she finished her schooling.

She married Bill Henthorn on March 6, 1981. The couple made their home in Salem and later in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death. Following her husband’s death, she moved to her daughter’s home in Big Laurel, Ky.

She was an active member of the Cedar Creek Friends church. She led singing and taught Sunday school and later became a member of Salem Friends Church before moving to Kentucky, where she attended Little Laurel Bible Church. She enjoyed singing, dancing and riding her bike. She also sang in the Sweet Adeline’s. She worked at the Sylvania plant in Burlington as well as at Heatilator in Mt. Pleasant.

She was survived by two daughters, Keren (Terry) Dncan of Nairobi, Kenya, Africa, and DeborahBoggs of Big Laurel, Ky.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Cynthia Joy (James) Hall and Mary (David) Houtz; one step-son, Mark enthorn; 11 step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Albert and Delbert Long; and a sister, Evelyn King.
