The families of the late Cleo and Mamie (Wilson) Watson held their annual reunion on Sunday, Aug. 13, at the Hillsboro Community Center with 46 attending.

Of the four children of Cleo and Mamie (Helen, Eileen, Melvin and Virgil) three are deceased. Daughter, Eileen Harper, is living in Ft. Madison now. She just moved there from Fairfield on Aug. 2. Cleo and Mamie’s daughter-in-law, Darleen Watson, lives in Fairfield.

The very first reunion was held at the Morris Park at Stockport in 1977 celebrating Cleo and Mamie’s 55th Wedding Anniversary. Since then, the reunion is always held on the Sunday closest to their anniversary, which was Aug. 13. Fifty-six attended the first reunion.

Next year the Watson Family Reunion is planned for Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, to be held at the Hillsboro Community Center.

The Hillsboro Fire and Rescue Department’s 26th Annual Christmas Craft Show will be Saturday, Nov. 11. If you would like to be a vendor or know someone who would be interested in selling their crafts or baked goods please contact Linda Carter at 319-253-4045 or Nancy Griffin at Hillsboro City Hall at 319-253-4465 during business hours Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for more information.

This is one of the events that the Fire and Rescue Department does throughout the year to raise money for the department. Mark your calendars and come support the volunteer department either by setting up as a vendor or browsing the many tables of crafts and baked goods for the holidays. You may find that perfect gift for that hard to buy person on your list! Also the firemen and women will be serving food during the day.
