Hilmer up for award

WACO's Bob Hilmer is in the running for the nation's best high school basketball coach in a contest sponsored by USA Today High School Sports. Hilmer is WACO's varsity boys' basketball coach and is Iowa's most winning high school basketball coach with a record of 772-313 in 50 years. He is one of 306 coaches from the United States selected for the contest.

The first round of voting is open through Jan. 21. The winners of that round (as well as the top two wildcards) will advance to regionals with voting Jan. 22-30. The winners of regionals and top two wildcards will then move onto the final round with voting Jan. 31-Feb. 7.
