Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers searched and raided MPC Enterprises, known locally as Midwest Precast Concrete, at 2001 W. Washington St. in Mt. Pleasant around 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9.

The search warrant was executed by Special Agents and Deportation Officers with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations with the assistance of local law enforcement.

Officers loaded multiple vans with people. It is unknown how many or where they are being taken. A news release from United States Department of Justice stated there was no threat to the public. No other information or comment will be released unless and until documents have been filed with the court, according to the news release.

As more questions surfaced, a dozen onlookers were gathered outside the fence at MPC Enterprises, awaiting word from family and friends.

“We just want to know what happened to all the people,” one viewer said.

Others said they came to sit on the side of the road and wait to hear word because it’s the best they can do right now.

Still another questioned what will happen to the children of some of the people raided by ICE.

“A lot of families with kids will be separated. Now they won’t have their parents by their side,” an onlooker said.

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol were also on the scene.
