It might not feel like it, but the 2018 softball season is over halfway through, and it’s already time to take a look at the postseason matchups for three of the five classes in Iowa.

The Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Association released the regional brackets for Classes 1A, 2A and 3A. As expected, both New London and Winfield-Mt. Union will be in the same region in Class 1A.

The Tigers and Wolves will be competing in Region 5. No. 7 Sigourney, the team that knocked both New London and W-MU out of regionals last season, will be the top seed in the region. Lynville-Sully is the second seed.

New London will host English Valleys in their first round matchup on Monday, July 2. EV is 4-10 this season. The winner of that game will take on either Montezuma or HLV in New London.

W-MU will face 3-12 Iowa Valley in Winfield. The winner of that game will have to travel to play Lynville-Sully in the second round.

If the Tigers and Wolves do meet, it will be in the regional final. New London is in the top half of the bracket, while W-MU is towards the bottom. The regional final will be on Monday, July 9, at 7 p.m. The highest remaining seed will host.

Overall, the field is one of the weaker ones in Iowa, with only one ranked team (No. 7 Sigourney) in the bracket. That means the field is up for grabs in what promises to be an extremely competitive tournament.
