Iowa students invited to apply to be legislative pages

Aug 30, 2017

CEDAR RAPIDS — High school students are being encouraged to apply to be legislative pages during the 2018 session of the Iowa Legislature.

Each year the Iowa General Assembly employs Iowa high school juniors and seniors to serve as pages during the legislative session that runs from early January to late spring.

Their duties vary, but they generally provide assistance to legislators and legislative staff. Tasks include running the chamber switchboard, delivering messages, distributing legislation, assisting committee chairpersons and sorting amendments. Pages are paid and many schools offer class credit for a student’s work in the Legislature.

Working as a page is seen as a way for students to learn about state government.

The applications deadline is Oct. 6.
