Nov 13, 2013

DES MOINES — Drake ran to a 7-0 lead and never looked back in a rout of the Iowa Wesleyan College men’s basketball team on Tuesday night, 104-49.

The NCAA DI Bulldogs led the whole way and improve their record to 2-0 with the win.

Steven Archibald put IWC on the board with a layup, making it 7-2 just under four minutes into the game.

Archibald was fouled on the shot and cut Drake’s lead to four when he made his free throw, but the Bulldogs kept cruising from there — they led 53-22 at halftime of the contest.

Blake Danielak paced Drake with 18 points.

He shot 7-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. He added six rebounds and four assists.

Jacob Enevold had 17 points for the Bulldogs, as well as five rebounds. Richard Carter added 14 points.

As a team, Drake shot 63.9 percent from the field. The Bulldogs committed just five turnovers to IWC’s 17 and outscored the Tigers 30-6 in the paint.

IWC was 32.7 percent shooting (16-for-49) on the night.

Dion Lightner was the lone Iowa Wesleyan player in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

Archibald and Chris Martin each scored nine points.

Joe Lennon contributed six points while Richard Hurt and Michael Neff each chipped in five.

Lightner and Archibald were each 3-for-8 from the field and Martin was 3-for-6.

Archibald had a team-high five rebounds and Murray Schwengels added four.

Lightner dished two assists. Four different Tigers had one steal each.

The game was an exhibition for the Tigers, who will open their regular season on Saturday night at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon at 7:30 p.m.

IWC will play its home opener on Wednesday, Dec. 4, against Westminster College.
