Iowa Wesleyan University received 21 points in the coaches poll this season. Last season, the Tigers won three games, improving their win total by two games under first year head coach, Mike Richtman.

Iowa Wesleyan lost several key players on offense, but will look to returners Jaquez Hall, Rudy Amezcua, and Tyree Thomas to step up. Hall had four touchdowns and averaged 53.5 yards per game for the Tigers last season. Rudy Amezcua , a Second Team Wide Receiver on the 2016 USCAA All-Football Team, averaged 36.2 receiving yards per game. Thomas returns for his second season with the Tigers after averaging 31.5 receiving yards per game in his first season.

On defense, the Tigers top three returners are Christian Henriksen, Joseph Mosley, and Julian Carabajal. Henriksen, a defensive lineman, finished the 2016 season with 50 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 4 tackles for a loss of 17 yards. Mosley, a sophomore defensive back, recorded 21 solo tackles and 10 pass breakups in his debut season with IW. Carabajal, a senior linebacker, ended the 2016 season with 11 assisted tackles.

IW will look for newcomers Austin Ferguson (linebacker), Kameron Banks (Defensive Back), and Juan Quero (Offensive Line) to make an impact right away.

The Tigers will open the 2017 season on the road. They will travel to Mount Vernon, Iowa to take on Cornell College. Kickoff will be under the lights with a 7 p.m. start time.
