Iowa Wesleyan presents spring concert

Apr 26, 2018

On April 25, over 60 voices will be raised in the presentation of Iowa Wesleyan’s spring concert at the Round Earth’s Imagined Corners. The Iowa Wesleyan University Choir, Primae Voces and The Mt. Pleasant Chorale will perform on Sunday, April 29, in University Chapel. The performance begins at 7 p.m.

The performance includes noted selections of music from the 14th Century to present day. Conductor Blair Buffington, director of choral activities, serves as the artistic director for the ensembles. He made his international conducting debut in 1995 and has led ensembles in United States, Canada, Europe and Australia.

The Iowa Wesleyan University Choir can be traced back to 1877 with the formation of the Mt.  Pleasant Academy of Music, later addressed as the Iowa Academy of Music on Iowa Wesleyan’s campus. The choir is one of the oldest continuously performing coeducational collegiate ensembles in the United States. Brought into assimilation of the academy to university curriculum in 1918, The Iowa Wesleyan University Choir celebrates its 100th year of performance in 2018.

The concert is free and open to the public. Donations are warmly accepted to support the music program at Iowa Wesleyan University.
