The Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team aimed to make it two wins in a row on Tuesday night but the visiting Faith Baptist Eagles were able to score early and hang on, as the Tigers fell 4-2.

The Eagles scored the first three goals of the game to take control early. Faith Baptist forward Allison Yuan scored the first two goals and then assisted Jessica Frerichs on the third goal in the 27th minute.

Less than two minutes later, however, IW was able to respond with a goal of its own. Grace Alongi, who sifted through the Eagle defense all game long was able to find some space and rocket the ball past the keeper to cut the lead to 3-1.

Alongi had a couple more good looks before halftime but Faith Baptist held onto a three-goal lead until halftime.

The Eagles seemingly put the game out of reach with another Yaun goal early in the second half, which made it 4-1 in the 51st minute.

In the 68th minute, Alongi sent a deep shot towards the goal, which slipped across the line before the keeper could get to it. The score was 4-2 and the Tigers had just over 20 minutes to tie the game up.

IW would pepper the Faith keeper with shots throughout the final 20 minutes, but the Tigers couldn’t break through again and had to settle for a two-goal loss.

Alongi finished with two goals on eight shots on goal. Courtney Mitchell added two shots on goal in the loss. Goalkeeper Destiny Colon faced 13 shots on goal and saved nine of them.

The Tigers fell to 1-3 with the loss and will hit the road for the first time this season on Thursday, Sept. 14. IW will take on William Penn University in Oskaloosa at 3 p.m.
